TA Day 118
TA Day 118: Tuesday 15 April 2025
Paihia - Kerikeri, Hall Road
We slept in this morning, a lot, which we haven't done for a long time. The next days will also be a bit like this, but then we can stay in bed even longer because we dont have to get out before 10, like today.
Today as we walked towards Waitangi we walked along a street with small painted flags on the pavement. We actually passed a Norwegian and Swedish flag even!
And lots of other flags that we recognised.
We only stopped shortly at Waitangi. Since the weather wasnt amazing, all we wanted was to get to Kerikeri.
We passed the golf course and eventually the tarmac turned to gravel. Here we met some horses that was more than happy to eat the grass Kim gave them from the other side of the fence. One of them even figured out that he could just put his head OVER the fence and eat the grass on the other side. Looked uncomfortable but funny.
The rest of the day we had rain on and off. We passed the Te Araroa Opening Marker - an odd-looking tall cairn. Other than that, very little happened along the logging road.
After quite a while we were out on the regular road again which took us to Kerikeri. Here we bought some food for tonight and some snacks for the upcoming days which will be spent mostly inside. We have an AirBnB booked for three nights as we wait out the storm. According to the forecast it will rain more than 100 mm and be 17 m/s winds during the upcoming two days.
The AirBnB host were really friendly and we got the last night for less than half the price!
We made ourselves at home and had some dinner before going to bed.
